By Jake Kinder The West Valley High School Marine Corps JROTC will be competing in the upcoming Interior Drill competition on November 3rd. West Valley will have two teams competing in the competition. Those teams are unarmed regulation drill and color guard.
Drill is one of the ways cadets demonstrate discipline and leadership as a unit. Unarmed drill team consists of 13 cadets in a formation called a platoon. The platoon is broken down into 3 squads, with squad leaders who are in charge of each squad. There is also a drill commander in charge of the platoon. Color guard is one of the other teams competing in the drill competition. Color guard is the ceremonial team students see perform at school events like football games, assemblies, and other large scale events. Color guard has four members on the team. Those team members are left rifleman, state flag, American Flag, and right rifleman. This year's color guard commander for the competition is cadet corporal Hannah Hansen. Make sure to come by WVHS on November 3rd to cheer on your Marine Corps JROTC.
